Huawei Mate40 Pro- First Huawei Phone to Support 66W Wired and 50W Wireless SuperCharge Charging

The boost in Huawei's proprietary SuperCharge charging continues with the Huawei Mate40 Pro which can now charge up to 66W. This is a timely increase in charging power since the Huawei Mate30 Pro which still uses 40W SuperCharge charging given that both of these phones support USB Power Delivery 3.0 (PD3) over Type-C for faster charging.

Another significant improvement in the Huawei Mate40 Pro is the 50W Qi wireless charging that the phone supports as opposed to 27W wireless charging on the Huawei Mate30 Pro. Note that this 50W wireless charging can only be achieved when used with Huawei's own 50W SuperCharge wireless chargers and 66W SuperCharge power adapter.

Interestingly while the Huawei Mate40 Pro has faster charging capabilities, its battery capacity is slightly lower at 4400 mAh compared to 4500 mAh on the Huawei Mate30 Pro. Nevertheless this still allows both phones to be able to reach higher max power charging rates in the 22.5-27W range.

For reverse wireless charging, the Huawei Mate40 Pro can be used to wirelessly charge its own Huawei series or other Qi enabled phones such as the Apple iPhone 11 Pro Max and Google Pixel 4 XL as well as being able to be wirelessly charged itself.

In terms of performance, the Huawei Mate40 Pro is one of the first Huawei phones to use Huawei's newest 5G enabled Kirin 9000 chipset, claimed to be the most powerful processor by Huawei. The Huawei Mate40 Pro also comes with a newer and faster Mali-G78 MP24 GPU, up to 8GB RAM (LPDDR5 2750MHz) memory as well as Bluetooth 5.2 LE and Wi-Fi 6 connectivity.

Here's a closer look at the Huawei Mate40 Pro from inside its packaging.

Huawei keeps to the Leica brand of cameras for most of their phones.

The side of the box shows off the official 5G logo indicating 5G LTE network compliance by the phone.

Huawei's SuperCharge technology has been certified by Germany based TUV Rheinland for safe charging compliance as can be seen on the back of the box.

The included accessories are typical for most Huawei phones consisting of a AC power charger, USB Type-A to Type-C cable, Type-C earbuds, plastic phone cover and SIM eject tool. Note that other competing brands like Apple has decided not to include a charger with their latest iPhone 12 series.

The USB Type-A based Huawei SuperCharge 66W AC Charger that shipped with the Huawei Mate40 Pro supports 10 watts (5 volts @ 2 amps), 40 watts (10 volts @ 4 amps) and 66 watts (11 volts @ 6 amps) power profiles. Note the charger and phone should be connected using the supplied USB Type-A to Type-C cable for fastest charging.

The Huawei Mate40 Pro is slightly bigger with a higher screen resolution of 1344 x 2772 pixels compared to 1176 x 2400 pixels on the Huawei Mate30 Pro.

The Huawei Mate40 Pro has better quality cameras although the camera setup is almost similar as its predecessor's. Some highlights include 5x optical zoom from the rear cameras and 4K video recording from the front camera of the Huawei Mate40 Pro.
