The Apple 15" MacBook Pro (Late 2016) is expected to enjoy rapid charging over USB Type-C using its own Apple 87W USB-C Power Adapter that comes with the MacBook.

Plugging in the Apple 87W USB-C Power Adapter to the Apple 15" MacBook Pro (Late 2016) using a USB Type-C to Type-C cable, the charger starts to communicate USB Power Delivery with the MacBook by offering an initial 12 watts (5 volts @ 2.4 amps) power profile.

The Apple 15" MacBook Pro (Late 2016) goes on to accept the initial 12 watts (5 volts @ 2.4 amps) provided by the charger.

We then observe that the Apple 87W USB-C Power Adapter promises to deliver additional 27 watts (9 volts @ 3 amps) and 86 watts (20 volts @ 4.3 amps) along with its initial 12 watts (5 volts @ 2.4 amps).

The Apple 15" MacBook Pro (Late 2016) doesn't hesitate to make full use of these additional power profiles by requesting the maximum 86 watts (20 volts @ 4.3 amps) which the charger then accepts.

On a fully depleted battery, we can see that the Apple 15" MacBook Pro (Late 2016) charges to around 80 watts (20 volts @ 4 amps) in the first 35 minutes.

The MacBook is then observed to pull around 36 watts (20 volts @ 1.8 amps) for about 83 minutes.

The power then gradually decreases to about 6 watts (20 volts @ 0.3 amps) as the Macbook's battery becomes fully charged.

Overall it takes around 132 minutes for the Apple 87W USB-C Power Adapter to fully charge the Apple 15" MacBook Pro (Late 2016) over USB Power Delivery. We also notice that the Macbook enjoys slightly faster charging with its own charger when compared to being charged using the third party 45 watts Ventev Wallport pd1300 Wall Charger which we tested in this review to observe a charging time of 134 minutes.
