The Ventev Wallport pd1300 Wall Charger with USB Power Delivery Can Be a Handy Charging Option for Your USB Type-C Device

The Ventev Wallport pd1300 Wall Charger is a very compact option if you need USB Power Delivery charging through USB Type-C for your phones, tablets, and laptops.

The wall charger comes with a single USB Type-C port that supports USB Power Delivery 2.0 that outputs up to 45 watts with these power profiles: 15 watts (5 volts @ 3 amps), 27 watts (9 volts @ 3 amps), 45 watts (15 volts @ 3 amps), and 45 watts (20 volts @ 2.25 amps).

The Ventev Wallport pd1300 Wall Charger with foldable AC prongs is packaged along with a USB Type-C to USB Type-C cable.

We will be taking a closer look at how the Ventev Wallport pd1300 Wall Charger charges other USB Type-C and Power Delivery enabled devices.

Using the USB Power Test App from Granite River Labs with the Granite River Labs USB Power Delivery Compliance C2 Tester, we generate the following test results for the Ventev Wallport pd1300 Wall Charger to see more details on its power capabilities.

The USB Power Test App first negotiates a power contract for every PDO supported by the Ventev Wallport pd1300 Wall Charger, and increases the load gradually to find the threshold where over current protection (OCP) kicks in and voltage and current start to drop for safety reasons.

Port1 Plot

The USB Power Test App reports out all the PDO's supported by the Ventev charger and their OCP thresholds. OCP thresholds for the charger are set at about 10-12% above the maximum current levels for the fixed PDO's.

PDOOCP (A)
PDO#1 Fixed: 5V 3A3.37
PDO#2 Fixed: 9V 3A3.31
PDO#3 Fixed: 15V 3A3.31
PDO#4 Fixed: 20V 2.25A2.52

The USB Power Test App from Granite River Labs also produces an I-V curve which graphically shows the relationship between voltage and current for each PDO. We can observe as the current increases beyond the OCP threshold, the voltage immediately shuts off.

IV Curve

Using the USB Power Delivery Compliance C2 Tester from Granite River Labs to run just a subset of the full USB Power Delivery compliance test suite, compliance failures were mostly observed for the Ventev Wallport pd1300 Wall Charger so just be more careful when using this charger.
