A Look at Electronics Sold in Queensbay Mall in Penang, Malaysia

Penang electronics shoppers can easily get their gadgets just about anywhere on the island. For a quick buy, just head over to a nearby retail store that carries the product brand. To discover more options or great deals, simply visit any of the huge all in one shopping malls.

Since we wanted to purchase several items, we made a trip to the Queensbay Mall in Penang, Malaysia. Located close to the industrial area, it is a popular shopping destination among the working folks.

Just a quick browse inside Queensbay and you will easily find hot sellers like Samsung, Apple, as well as Chinese brands Huawei and Xiaomi. Going further inside, we dropped by the Sony Centre to look for the Sony Quick Charger UCH12W. At the time Sony was promoting their latest α9 Full-Frame Mirrorless Camera with Stacked CMOS Sensor, also seen advertised on one column of the mall. Interestingly the α9 was the official Sony camera for the recent 2017 Sea Games held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This premium camera offers 4K recording, 24.2MP 35mm full-frame Exmor RS CMOS sensor, and BIONZ X processor among its high end features.

Among the items displayed inside the Sony store were A/V products including the SRS-ZR7 and SRS-ZR5 wireless Bluetooth/Wi-Fi speakers as well as the popular W Series audio headphones.

In another corner, we could see various Sony Xperia smartphones ranging from the previous flagship Xperia X to the more recent Xperia XZsXperia XZ Premium and Xperia XA1 series. The newer USB Type-C based phones boast 4K HDR display and Sony's premium camera features, as well as supporting MediaTek's fast charging technology.

After purchasing the Sony Quick Charger UCH12W (read more about it here), we went over to a Huawei store nearby. Looking at the fine print  underneath the Huawei name above the store, we found out that this Huawei store is owned by another Urban Republic outlet also located on the same floor. Looks like there's a partnership going on between Huawei and Urban Republic which is generally an electronics retail outlet.

The Huawei store was promoting Huawei's latest flagship USB Type-C enabled phones- Huawei P10P10 Plus, and the new Nova 2 Plus. Not surprisingly given Huawei's reputation with their top-notch camera's, the Nova 2 Plus phone readily shows off its improved front 'selfie' camera and rear dual camera setup.

Heading towards the Mi Store we were greeted with the new Mi TV 3 (70-inch) beside the main entrance. This 4K@60hz TV happens to be Xiaomi's  largest TV to date that also supports HDMI, USB 3.0, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi.

We also wanted to purchase the Mi Power Bank Pro 10000mAh with a USB Type-C port (click here to find out more) so we went inside the Mi Store. Here we could easily find it on the display section but not much information was given for this USB Type-C based power bank.

The Mi Store doesn't really sell what they had displayed but rather serves as one of a kind exhibition area for Xiaomi's products. Realizing we were looking to buy the Mi Power Bank Pro 10000mAh with a USB Type-C port, the storekeeper actually suggested us to get it from the Urban Republic store nearby. Later we found out that like Huawei, Urban Republic are also partners with Xiaomi.

On our way to the Urban Republic retail outlet, we also passed by their setup booth which could be seen promoting the new Honor 8 Pro phone by Huawei. Similar to the Huawei P10, the Honor 8 Pro also uses its own special charger and charging cable to get the fastest charging over USB Type-C.

Urban Republic seems more like a one-off concept store which offers electronics as well as outdoor products. Here you can shop among the wide selection of wearables, phones, tablets, portable A/V products, accessories and more. There's even a cozy in-house cafe to give you more reason to spend more time in the store.

Fortunately the Mi Power Bank Pro 10000mAh with a USB Type-C port was in stock which we finally purchased.

The store sells a wide range of USB portable chargers, charging cables, adapters, and docks from popular brands like MoshiTargusj5create, Cygnett and others.

Queensbay Mall has plenty to offer not just for those looking for a specific product brand but also those who want to enjoy a great electronics retail shopping experience.
