The Sony Quick Charger UCH12W is one of the few chargers in the market that supports both Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 (commonly found on Qualcomm Snapdragon based phones) and MediaTek's PumpExpress+ 2.0 (MediaTek's answer to Qualcomm Quick Charge for MediaTek based phones).
We purchased the Sony Quick Charger UCH12W at the Sony Centre in Queensbay Mall in Penang, Malaysia.
The packaging of this charger is very high-end and follows Sony's packaging styling.
The back of the packaging shows not only support for both charging technologies, but also support of USB Type-C and USB micro-B enabled phones by including both USB Type-A to USB Type-C and USB Type-A to USB micro-B cables.
Opening up the Sony Quick Charger UCH12W box, we can see the charger, USB Type-A to USB Type-C and USB Type-A to USB micro-B cables, and documentation.
The Sony Quick Charger UCH12W shows power output support of 13.5 watts (5 volts @ 2.7 amps), 16.2 watts (9 volts @ 1.8 amps), and 16.2 watts (12 volts @ 1.35 amps).
These odd wattage levels are perhaps due to the Sony Quick Charger UCH12W supporting both Qualcomm Quick Charge and MediaTek PumpExpress+ technologies which the charger proudly display the labels for next to the USB Type-A port.
Sony probably chose this strategy to support both Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 and MediaTek's PumpExpress+ 2.0 in the Sony Quick Charger UCH12W because its Xperia phone line up supports both charging methods, depending on what main processor is being used.
The Xperia phones which support PumpExpress+ 2.0 are:
Xperia XA/XA Dual SIM |
Xperia XA Ultra/XA Ultra Dual SIM |
Xperia XA1 |
Xperia XA1 Ultra |
The Xperia phones which support Quick Charge 3.0 are:
Xperia XZ/XZ Dual SIM |
Xperia XZ Premium/XZ Premium Dual SIM |
Xperia XZs |
Xperia X Compact |
