After having some problems getting the Samsung Galaxy S8 to work with several third party USB Type-C docks, we were happy to see that it was able to work with the OWC Type-C Dock. Given the OWC Type-C Dock was initially oriented towards Mac users, it was nice to see that it could work with non-Mac products like the Samsung Galaxy S8.
When we first connected the OWC Type-C Dock to the Samsung Galaxy S8 using a USB 3.1 Type-C to Type-C cable, initially there was no reaction but after reconnecting the cable, we saw that the Samsung Galaxy S8 was able to output its screen to the LG B6 OLED 4K HDR Smart TV - 65" Class connected to the OWC Type-C Dock.
We could also see by swiping down from the top of the phone's screen, that we could select audio output to the OWC Type-C Dock audio outputs as well as the Display device attached to the dock.
One of the main benefits of using DisplayPort over a USB Power Delivery enabled Type-C connector is that you can smoothly play high resolution movies without any of the lag associated with wireless Miracast display technology. You can also keep your Samsung Galaxy S8 charged using USB Power Delivery while playing video through the dock.
Even though the Samsung Galaxy S8 came out much later than the OWC Type-C Dock, it's good to see that you can use this dock to output video from the phone.
