The SoftBank SELECTION USB Type-C Fast Charging AC Adapter can be used to quickly charge many Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 phones like the LG G5 . We determine how the SoftBank charger supplies power to the LG G5 phone over Qualcomm Quick Charge using the GRL-USB-PD-A1 software by Granite River Labs.

When the SoftBank charger is plugged in directly to the USB Type-C connector on the LG phone with a fully depleted battery, the phone begins to trickle charge from 5 volts to 9 volts by pulling current up to around 1 amps while the phone is off or in sleep mode. The current finally starts to stabilize after 30 seconds which later steps up to about 1.8 amps for the phone to charge at around 16.2 watts (9 volts @ 1.8 amps).

The LG G5 is able to charge close to the max 18 watts supported by the SoftBank SELECTION USB Type-C Fast Charging AC Adapter which confirms that the phone works well with the SoftBank charger. 16 watts is also higher than what the phone mostly gets from other Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 based chargers like the AUKEY CC-T7 Car Charger (this review) and Tronsmart Presto (click here).
