The mophie Powerstation USB-C XXL supports USB Power Delivery 2.0 technology to output up to 30 watts of charging, which we find out here how it charges the Sony Xperia XZ1 over USB Type-C.

Using a USB Type-C to Type-C cable, we connected the Xperia XZ1 on a fully depleted battery to the mophie Powerstation USB-C XXL which itself was about 75% charged. While initially the voltage started up at 5 volts, the phone was trickle charging while pulling up to 2 amps current. When the Xperia XZ1 then made use of the 9 volts rail for charging, it dropped the current to keep charging at around 10 watts thus not taking full advantage of the 15 watts minimum that is typically possible with USB Power Delivery technology.

Besides USB Power Delivery 2.0, the Xperia XZ1 also supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 based charging where a similar level of charging can be seen in this review.
