The Sony Xperia XZ1 supports both Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 and USB Power Delivery 2.0 so let's see how it charges with the Sony Quick Charger UCH12W which is shipped with the phone.  The Sony Quick Charger UCH12W uses both Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 and MediaTek's PumpExpress+ 2.0 technology it can support phones with both Qualcomm and MediaTek chipsets.

Here connect the Sony Quick Charger UCH12W at 0% battery to the Xperia XZ1 using the Sony USB Type-A to Type-C cable and observe the charging activity through the Granite River Labs GRL-USB-PD-A1 test software.

When the phone is first plugged in, the phone trickle charges at about 3.5 watts (5 volts @ .7 amps).  The power charging gets reset when a lower level operating system mode turns on where the Sony logo is seen briefly and the screen shows the phone is charge but the user still can't use the Android interface, the phone starts charging at a higher 7.5 watts (5 volts @ .7 amps).

When there is enough battery charge, we turn on the phone's Android operating system and the power charging again resets but this time the power rises higher to 10 watts (6.7 volts @ 1.5 amps) while the phone's screen is locked and in a lower power state.  Once we unlocked the phone, the voltage rose to 9 volts and the power consumption can rise to 12 watts when power hungry apps like YouTube.
