The DeX Station by Samsung uses its own proprietary quick charging scheme to rapidly charge the Samsung Galaxy S8 over the USB Type-C interface but the dock can also support charging using USB Power Delivery.

By using the Apple 61W USB-C Power Adapter to supply power to the DeX Station which we have plugged in to the dock's USB Type-C charging port using a USB Type-C to Type-C cable, we observed how charging happened between the DeX StationSamsung Galaxy S8, and Apple 61W USB-C Power Adapter over USB Power Delivery.

Looking at the USB Power Delivery negotiations between the DeX Station and Samsung Galaxy S8 when the phone was docked, both devices started off by swapping data roles which resulted in the dock declaring a single 2.5 watts (5 volts @ 0.5 amps) power profile.

The Samsung Galaxy S8 followed up to request the 2.5 watts (5 volts @ 0.5 amps) which was accepted by the DeX Station. The dock was then seen to request Sink Capabilities from the phone to which it complied.

The DeX Station was observed later on to finally declare its own source capabilities of 7.5 watts (5 volts @ 1.5 amps) and 15 watts (9 volts @ 1.67 amps).

The Samsung Galaxy S8 went on to request 7.5 watts (5 volts @ 1.5 amps) which was accepted by the DeX Station.

When the DeX Station again offered the same source capabilities of 7.5 watts (5 volts @ 1.5 amps) and 15 watts (9 volts @ 1.67 amps), the Samsung Galaxy S8 proceeded to establish the higher 15 watts (9 volts @ 1.67 amps) power contract with the dock.

Here we could see the Samsung Galaxy S8 was actually pulling around 10.8 watts (9 volts @ 1.2 amps) from the DeX Station, although it took almost 15 seconds for the dock to finally charge the phone.

The DeX Station was able to charge the Samsung Galaxy S8 using USB Power Delivery at the same power when using the phone's own charger.

We further observed how the DeX Station communicated over USB Power Delivery with the Apple 61W USB-C Power Adapter

For starters the Apple 61W USB-C Power Adapter initially offered a constant 12 watts (5 volts @ 2.4 amps) USB Power Delivery power profile to the DeX Station

The DeX Station eventually requested to pull 10 watts (5 volts @ 2 amps) which was accepted by the Apple charger.

The Apple 61W USB-C Power Adapter later added on two more power profiles: 27 watts (9 volts @ 3 amps) and 60 watts (20 volts @ 3 amps) to its initial 12 watts (5 volts @ 2.4 amps).

The DeX Station however still went on to establish 10 watts (5 volts @ 2 amps) power contract with the Apple charger.

When the Apple 61W USB-C Power Adapter again declared the same PDO's of 12 watts (5 volts @ 2.4 amps), 27 watts (9 volts @ 3 amps), and 60 watts (20 volts @ 3 amps), we could see the DeX Station requested a higher power of 27 watts (9 volts @ 3 amps) from the Apple charger.

From the power graph, the Apple 61W USB-C Power Adapter started charging the DeX Station from 9.9 watts (9 volts @ 1.1 amps) and eventually at around 11.7 watts (9 volts @ 1.3 amps) using USB Power Delivery.
