Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra Comes with 120W Charger and Supports Max 85W USB Charging
Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra shows the future of fast charging using graphene enhanced Li-ion batteries which allows for faster, cooler charging and longer battery life. The phone's 4500 mAh battery supports rapid charging using its own shipped Xiaomi 120W Power Adapter which can take advantage of Qualcomm Quick Charge 5 and 4+ as well as USB Power Delivery and PPS (Programmable Power Supply) technology over the USB Type-A port. Even though the Xiaomi charger offers up to 120W, the phone is only able to achieve max 85W charging using this charger. 85W is still impressively fast for a phone by today's standards and is a huge leap from 45W based charging on the previous generation Mi 9 Pro 5G.
The Xiaomi 120W Power Adapter is one of the highest watt mobile chargers in the market with competing brands such as OPPO advertising their own 125W SuperVOOC Flash Charge based charging and Huawei with their proprietary 66W SuperCharge charging scheme. Rather than having their own charging system, Xiaomi has decided to keep to standard Qualcomm Quick Charge and USB Power Delivery fast charging technologies for their phones.
With Qualcomm Quick Charge 5, the Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra can charge its battery quickly using USB Power Delivery 3.0, PPS and Qualcomm Quick Charge 4+ technology over the USB Type-C interface. Qualcomm Quick Charge 5 allows more than 100W charging to be supported hence the Xiaomi 120W Power Adapter came in.
Wireless charging has also increased to 50W for the Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra, faster than 30W on the Mi 9 Pro 5G. The Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra also supports reverse wireless charging up to 10W, allowing the phone to wirelessly charge its own Mi series or other Qi enabled phones such as the Apple iPhone 12 and Google Pixel 5 as well as being able to be wirelessly charged itself.
The sleek looking packaging of the Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra differentiates it from the ones that came with other previous Mi phones.
The box opens up to showcase accessories for the phone which include the Xiaomi 120W Power Adapter, USB Type-A to Type-C cable, SIM eject tool, clear soft case and a USB Type-C to 3.5 mm audio adapter for connecting to your legacy audio headphones from the phone's USB Type-C port.
The Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra has better quality rear cameras compared to the Mi 9 Pro 5G with a total of four cameras supporting up to 48MP, 120x hybrid zoom and 8K HDR10 video recording.
The USB Type-A based Xiaomi 120W Power Adapter supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 5/4+ technology using 15 watts (5 volts @ 3 amps), 27 watts (9 volts @ 3 amps), 66 watts (11 volts @ 6 amps) and 120 watts (20 volts @ 6 amps) power profiles. Interestingly this charger depends on the AC input voltage to determine how much power it can deliver. For example, you can only get up to 120W in China or other countries that support 220V using this charger. If you use this charger in the US at 120V, you will only get max of 96W (20V@4.8A). This is quite unusual since the output power is usually independent of AC power.
Note Qualcomm Quick Charge 5 (QC5) support for up to 120W would apply for phones that support QC5, however this has yet to be seen on any QC5 enabled phones.
The Xiaomi 120W Power Adapter can also negotiate over USB Power Delivery 3.0 based PPS technology using the USB Type-A to Type-C cable that is included in the Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra's box.
For fastest charging, make sure to use the supplied USB Type-A to Type-C cable accessory to connect both phone and charger.
Note the Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 logo is still used despite the charger supporting Qualcomm Quick Charge 5/4+.
