With various fast charge combo in a single charger, the Energizer XP20001PD USB-C 45W PD Power Hub allows you to charge your Mac or multiple devices quickly. Like other similar chargers such as the Innergie PowerGear USB-C 45 and Perigears 45W USB-C PD Wall Charger, the Energizer power hub provides USB Type-C based USB Power Delivery charging up to 45 watts. You can charge your latest iPhone fast at 9-12 volts or power your Mac at 15-20 volts. The hub also has four USB Type-A outputs to offer a total 21 watts of legacy charging for various smartphones and tablets or iPhone's and iPad's.
The Energizer XP20001PD USB-C 45W PD Power Hub came bundled with a USB Type-C to Type-C charging cable, a USB Type-A to Micro-B charging cable and instruction sheet.
It's fastest to charge your USB Power Delivery capable devices like the Apple MacBook 12" Retina 2017 directly using the supplied USB Type-C to Type-C cable or a USB Type-C to Lightning cable for your iPhone X. You can also use a USB Type-C to Type-A cable if you want to charge non USB Power Delivery capable devices like the Huawei P9 phone or any other standard smartphones and tablets.
The USB Type-C port has dual role power capabilities to be able to power other devices as well as keep the Energizer hub charged. Energizer claims on the bottom of its casing to support 15 watts (5 volts @ 3 amps), 27 watts (9 volts @ 3 amps), 36 watts (12 volts @ 3 amps), 45 watts (15 volts @ 3 amps) and 45 watts (20 volts @ 2.25 amps) of output charging using USB Power Delivery 2.0. It also supports 15 watts (5 volts @ 3 amps), 27 watts (9 volts @ 3 amps), 36 watts (12 volts @ 3 amps), 36 watts (15 volts @ 2.4 amps) and 36 watts (20 volts @ 1.8 amps) for charging in.
The USB Type-A ports can at most supply 21 watts (5 volts @ 4.2 amps) on an aggregate basis to charge up to four devices simultaneously.
Other than the USB Type-C port, the Energizer hub can also be charged through its Micro-B port up to 10 watts (5 volts @ 2 amps) when plugged in with the supplied USB Type-A to Micro-B cable accessory. Somehow the USB Type-C port is easy to get confused with the Micro-B port which are on opposite sides of the charger.
Before using the Energizer XP20001PD USB-C 45W PD Power Hub, it's advisable to go through some safety precautions as listed on its product page.
Using the USB Power Test App from Granite River Labs with the Granite River Labs USB Power Delivery Compliance C2 Tester, we performed the following tests for the Energizer XP20001PD USB-C 45W PD Power Hub.
The USB Power Test App first negotiates a power contract for every PDO supported by the Energizer hub, and increases the load gradually to find the threshold where over current protection (OCP) kicks in and voltage and current start to drop for safety reasons.
The USB Power Test App reports out all the PDO's supported by the Energizer hub and their OCP thresholds. OCP thresholds for the Energizer hub are set at about 6-27% above the maximum current levels for the fixed PDO's.

The USB Power Test App from Granite River Labs also produces an I-V curve which graphically shows the relationship between voltage and current for each PDO. We can observe as the current increases beyond the OCP threshold, the voltage immediately shuts off for all PDO's except for the 9V PDO. The 9V PDO displays current fold-back behavior where as the current increases beyond the OCP threshold, the voltage starts to bend down rather than immediately shutting off.
Since the Energizer XP20001PD USB-C 45W PD Power Hub is a multi port power hub, the USB Power Test App can be used to determine whether each output port of the hub is able to supply power independently. For every PDO supported by the Energizer hub, the USB Power Test App increases the load gradually for both the USB Type-C and Type-A ports to detect any power loss at the highest load limit for each port.
