Add Motion Sensing for HomeKit Automation with the Eve Motion
Adding a motion sensor to HomeKit is a key part of any automation scheme that involves some action like lights turning on upon entry into a room.
Elgato addresses this need with the Eve Motion, which uses Bluetooth Low Energy to connect through your iPad or Apple TV based HomeKit hub to support HomeKit based automation. The Eve Motion uses infrared to detect motion with a 120-degree field of view and range of up to 30 feet, and has a reaction time of two seconds.
It can also be used outdoors given it works within an operating temperature range of 0 degrees F to 130 degrees F, and is IPX 3 water resistant.
We purchased the Eve Motion from the Apple Store in the Stoneridge Shopping Center, its packaging being very similar to other Eve products.
The Eve Motion comes with batteries and documentation.
The back of the Eve Motion has the HomeKit code which you need to scan in during the HomeKit pairing process.
Motion sensors are a key part of any home automation setup and we will be seeing how to automate the Eve Motion with other HomeKit devices like the Philips Hue Starter Kit. In this next review, we look at how to set up the Eve Motion.
