While the Moto G4 was launched at $199.99, the Moto G4 Play and Moto G4 Plus were launched at $149.99 and $229.99 respectively. The Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus sport a lot of similarities internally, while the Moto G4 Play specs are quite different.  If you are looking to buy the new Moto G4 Play, make sure you don't get confused with the existing Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus.  The following are the differences between the Moto G4 PlayMoto G4, and Moto G4 Plus.

The Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus are powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 SoC clocked at 1.5GHz, coupled with an Adreno 405 GPU. The Moto G4 Play uses a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 clocked at 1.2GHz and coupled with an Adreno 306 GPU.

When comes to the display, both the Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus feature a 5.5-inch full-HD (1080x1920 pixels) display and have a pixel density of 401ppi. The Moto G4 Play, on the other hand, has a 5-inch HD (720x1280 pixels) display with a pixel density of 294ppi.

Regarding storage, the Moto G4 Plus has 16GB and 32GB storage versions and comes with options for 2GB, 3GB and 4GB RAM. The Moto G4 and Moto G4 Play, on the other hand come only with 16GB of storage.  The Moto G4 only has a 2GB RAM option while the Moto G4 Play has 1GB and 2GB RAM variants. All the three smartphones support expandable storage via microSD card (up to 128GB).

Compared to the other models the Moto G4 Plus also has superior security because it is the only model to ship with a fingerprint sensor which is located on the bottom bezel (iPhone-style).

On the camera side, the Moto G4 packs a 13-megapixel rear camera with an f/2.0 aperture and a dual-LED flash module. The Moto G4 Plus has a 16-megapixel rear camera with an f/2.0 aperture and dual-LED flash module and also enjoys advanced camera features like laser autofocus and phase detection auto-focus (PDAF). The Moto G4 Play just has an 8-megapixel rear camera with f/2.2 aperture and LED flash. All the Moto G4 models use a 5-megapixel front camera with an f/2.2 aperture.

Both the Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus have a large 3000mAh battery and come with a TurboPower charger while the Moto G4 Play has a slightly smaller 2800mAh battery and comes bundled with a 10W Charger.

All versions of the Moto G4 use near stock Android 6.0 Marshmallow out-of-the-box with slight tweaks.

While the entire Moto G4 family is affordable (especially with these deals for Amazon Prime users) and well featured, Lenovo has positioned the Moto G4 Plus in the premium category while offering the Moto G4 Play for budget sensitive customers.
