Lenovo Shows What it Can Do With the Motorola Brand With the Moto G4 Plus

One of the latest mobile phones to join Motorola Mobility's Moto line of smartphones is the Moto G4 Plus. After Motorola Mobility's acquisition by Lenovo, Lenovo released the Moto G4 in 2015 and have now released the Moto G4, G4 Plus, and G4 Play.  Compared to the other models in the G4 family, the Moto G4 Plus comes with a better camera quality and a fingerprint sensor.

The Moto G4 Plus has a Qualcomm's Snapdragon 617 SoC, 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB onboard storage, Android Marshmallow 6.0.1, Google's Photos App, 16-megapixel camera with f/2.0 aperture and Phase Detection Auto focus (PDAF), and a microSD card (up to 128 GB) along with two Micro-SIMs slots and fingerprint sensor.

The Moto G4 Plus has been released in two variants- one with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB onboard storage, and the other with 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB onboard storage.

I had ordered the 32 GB Variant through Amazon India for the cost of 14999 INR. I had ordered the phone on Friday and received the phone on Monday. The Amazon packaging arrived damaged.

Inside Amazon's sorry packaging, you can see the Moto G4 Plus box which shows the new Lenovo brand written on it.  Interestingly enough, the cost of the phone and other detail pertaining to the phone were written on the sides of the box.

On the back cover of the box, the phone specification as well as common features enabled by the phone is written in multiple languages.

Inside the box you will see the Moto g4 plus as well as accessories belonging to the phone.  The accessories include a user guide, headset, and power charger adaptor.

The phone has volume button and well crafted power on button.  Unlike most phones which look pretty but slips easily through your fingers, the Moto G4 Plus has a marginally thicker bottom and bulged back.  The phone has a flatter design compared to the more pebble-like Moto G3 or and G3 Turbo.

The Moto G4 Plus's 5.5 inch screen display is covered with Corning's Gorilla Glass.  It also has a Snapdragon 617 processor which is an 8-core processor with a top speed of 1.5 GHz.  There is also a 16-megapixel rear camera, with support for laser and dual-phase auto focus. It also has dual-tone flash. On the front there is a 5-megapixel camera which has a wide-angle lens and great for shooting group selfies.

The Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 enabled power adapter accessory that came with the phone charges the Moto G4 Plus from empty to 20-30 percent within minutes.

Once the power button on the right side of the phone is turned on, the screen displays 'Welcome' and allow you to choose language of your choice.  Following the language selection, you can join an available WI-FI network.

Once WI-FI selection is complete, you can set up the password and privacy settings.

There is a option to copy your Android phone setup such as Google accounts, apps and data from other Android device.  To do this I have used Micromax Canvas Knight 2.  Once you select 'Copy Google accounts, apps and data from your other device' in the Moto G4 Plus, it will show settings to setup a nearby device.

Once setup is completed on the Moto G4 Plus, go to the Micromax Canvas Knight 2's Google settings and choose 'Set up nearby device'.

From the 'Copy device setup' screen, you can choose the G4 Plus which shows up in this example as Moto G(4)(919). The App will then make you confirm you see the same verification code on both phone screens.

Here are the Micromax Canvas Knight 2 setup screenshots:

Here are the Moto G4 Plus screen shots:

Once code verification is completed, you are all set to copy the Google accounts, apps and data from the Micromax Canvas Knight 2 to the Moto G4 Plus.

The following are the remaining Micromax Canvas Knight 2 setup screenshots:

Back on the Moto G4 Plus, you can set up other e-mail and restore other Android backups.

After the restoring process is finished, you can protect the phone by activating device protection features such as pattern/pin/fingerprint and set up Google Now.

After the Google Android setup is complete, you can sign up for MOTO news and start using the phone.

The Moto G4 Plus is an all-round good phone and offers fantastic performance for its price.  It has the best camera and screen we have seen in Moto G so far and its fingerprint scanner works very well.  The Moto G4 Plus comes with stock Android which is fuss-free and easy to use.
