OPPO Reno4 Pro 5G Supports 65W SuperVOOC 2.0 But Only For Brief Period of Time

The spike in charging rates are apparent on some recent flagship phones such as the Huawei Mate40 Pro and OPPO Reno4 Pro 5G. Both of these phones use their own proprietary charging schemes to support up to 66W on the Huawei Mate40 Pro using Huawei SuperCharge technology and 65W on the OPPO Reno4 Pro 5G through OPPO SuperVOOC 2.0 technology.

By supporting 65W, the newer OPPO SuperVOOC 2.0 based charging is a big jump from the previous generation 20W VOOC Flash Charge 3.0 on the OPPO Reno2. The OPPO Reno4 Pro 5G can take advantage of SuperVOOC 2.0 to charge faster up to 65 watts @ 6.5 amps. However we tested the phone to find that it is only able to reach near maximum charging for just a short period of time. Other than SuperVOOC 2.0, the phone also supports standard USB Power Delivery 3.0 technology over Type-C for rapid charging.

The OPPO Reno4 Pro 5G comes 5G capable as advertised on its box.

One corner of the phone's inner box is a bit squashed.

Accessories that shipped with the OPPO Reno4 Pro 5G include a USB Type-A to Type-C cable, AC adapter, SIM ejector tool, earbuds and casing. Don't expect to find the legacy 3.5 mm audio jack that existed on previous models like the OPPO Reno2. Users will now have to make use of the supplied Type-C earbuds as the OPPO Reno4 Pro 5G has switched to  USB Type-C based audio.

Among the key features of the OPPO Reno4 Pro 5G that differentiate the phone from older models are the newer and faster Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G chipset, 65W SuperVOOC 2.0 based charging and Super AMOLED 90Hz HDR10 display.

Video enthusiasts can take advantage of the Ultra Steady Video recording capability that promotes image stabilization through the phone's rear cameras.

In addition to SuperVOOC, the phone can also be charged using USB Power Delivery up to 18W over its Type-C connector.

The USB Type-A based AC adapter accessory uses the OPPO SuperVOOC 2.0 fast charging scheme to support 10 watts (5 volts @ 2 amps) and 65 watts (10 volts @ 6.5 amps) power profiles. Make sure to use the supplied USB Type-A to Type-C cable when connecting the adapter and phone to get the fastest charging.
