The Huawei Mate30 Pro charges faster with the Huawei 27W SuperCharge Wireless Charger using Qi technology versus the previous generation Huawei 15W Wireless Charger. Let's take a closer look at how much Qi wireless charging has improved. Note the Huawei 27W SuperCharge Wireless Charger itself is powered using the Huawei SuperCharge 40W AC Charger over a USB Type-C port.
Using the GRL-C2 USB PD Tester and GRL-PSP Power Analyzer software from Granite River Labs, we analyze the details on how the Huawei Mate30 Pro works with the Qi chargers and the USB charger powering them.
When the Huawei Mate30 Pro is fully drained and kept off, we connect the phone to the Huawei 27W SuperCharge Wireless Charger which is connected to the Huawei SuperCharge 40W AC Charger. During the “Fast Charge” mode, the Qi charger consumes around 24-25W while during the “Cool Down” mode, the Qi charger consumes either at around 23W or 20W levels with the phone's external temperature (which is recorded using a FLIR camera) increasing by 18° C. Finally, in “Saturation” mode the Qi charger gradually pulls less power until the phone’s battery reaches 100%.
We now repeat the same testing and analysis, but this time with the Huawei Mate30 Pro drained to 2% and with the display and WI-FI kept active. Here, we see that during the “Fast Charge” mode, the Qi charger consumes around 13W before going into a “Cool Down” mode. During the "Cool Down" mode, power stays at either around 13W or 7W levels with the Qi charger periodically drops power by almost half, with max increase of temperature to 14° C. "Saturation" mode starts when the battery hits about 80% charge where the Qi charger is consuming about 10W dropping down to 5W as the battery reaches 100% charge, with the display and WI-FI kept active.
Comparing the Huawei Mate30 Pro while the phone's display and WI-FI are kept active, charging using the Huawei SuperCharge 40W AC Charger versus the Huawei 27W SuperCharge Wireless Charger, we can see that the phone charges at similar rates with both chargers although the phone gets warmer using the Huawei SuperCharge 40W AC Charger.
The Huawei Mate30 Pro has achieved much closer parity between both Qi and SuperCharge charging technologies even when the phones are kept active. Although the Huawei Mate30 Pro only achieves this performance with the Huawei 27W SuperCharge Wireless Charger right now, we get a peep into the future where users can generally achieve the same fast charging rates that they get today using SuperCharge, using Qi wireless charging.
If we compare the Huawei Mate30 Pro's charging performance between using the Huawei 27W SuperCharge Wireless Charger versus the previous generation Huawei 15W Wireless Charger, we can see that the 27W Qi version charges about 47% faster (measured when the phone's display is at full brightness) than the 15W Qi version.
