Apple and GoPro in many ways are a lot alike. Both were started and are headquartered in the San Francisco Bay Area. Both have the cool factor that have endeared them to very loyal fans. And both are obsessed over making the best possible user experience with their products. You can even find the GoPro cameras sold in the Apple Store given the extreme videos taken by GoPro users are a good match for Apple's video editing tools and high resolution color accurate displays.
The iPhone 6s is a good complement with the GoPro's latest HERO4 Session. The Session is inexpensive, rugged, and waterproof and designed to strap into places that you would never dare stick your expensive iPhone into. You can use the iPhone 6s to shoot higher resolution 4K@30 fps videos or 720p@240 fps videos used in slow motion compared to the middle of the road Session's 1080p@60 fps. The iPhone 6s can also be used to control and change the settings of the HERO4 Session.
To use the iPhone 6s with the GoPro HERO4 Sesssion, first go to the Apple App Store and search for the GoPro App.
Next, Get and Install the GoPro App.
After the GoPro App has been installed, Open the App.
As soon as you open the GoPro App, choose whether to allow GoPro to Access Your Photos. Select Connect Your Camera.
In the Camera screen, select Add Camera and then select HERO4 Session. Assuming this is the first time you've connected the Session, select YES so you can pair the phone and set up the phone's WI-FI network. If you select NO, you will just need the WI-FI password from the last time you set up the Session with another phone.
Go to the Session and press the info/Wi-FI button used to call up the menu on the Session display. Press the button until you see APP and then select it by pressing the big circle button next to the Session display. You'll then be asked to enter into the App the code shown on the Session to start the pairing process.
To complete the pairing process, enter the name and password of the camera's WI-FI network that will be used to connect the iPhone.
After the pairing is done, you'll need to manually go to the iPhone's WI-FI settings and go to WI-FI (on Android phones, the WI-FI network is changed automatically). Select the WI-FI network with the same name and password of the Session that you just set up.
Once your iPhone is connected with the Session's WI-FI network, go back to the GoPro App and you'll see the Wi-FI symbol next to the picture of the Session camera turned blue meaning you are connected. If you select Control you can immediately view what the camera is seeing.
Another important feature of the App is Settings where you can change the video resolution, frames per second, and other settings for video and photo taking.
The iPhone 6s in general works well with the GoPro HERO4 Session but one inconvenient aspect of the iPhone is you need to manually switch between the WI-FI network of your the Session to your local WI-FI network. This also means if you depend on your WI-FI network for Internet access, you can't use the GoPro App to control the Session and be online with your iPhone at the same time.
If you don't want to deal with the crowds at Apple, another place to get your GoPro HER04 Session and iPhone 6s is Target. Nowadays, Target has an impressive selection of electronics including the latest GoPro cameras, iPhones, and the latest accessories.
