Linocell 45W PD Car Charger Offers 2-in-1 Charging with USB Power Delivery and Qualcomm Quick Charge

The Linocell 45W PD Car Charger supports both USB Power Delivery (PD) and Qualcomm Quick Charge (QC) standards for rapid charging through the DC power outlet of your car. This allows you to quickly charge your USB PD enabled phones and tablets at 15 volts and notebook PC's at 20 volts or your QC enabled phones up to 18W.  

The Linocell 45W PD Car Charger uses 45 watts (20 volts @ 2.25 amps), 45 watts (15 volts @ 3 amps) or 15 watts (5 volts @ 3 amps) power profiles for USB PD 2.0 charging over its Type-C output port as stated on its packaging. The charger claims to also at most supply 18 watts for QC 3.0 charging using 15 watts (5 volts @ 3 amps), 18 watts (9 volts @ 2 amps) and 18 watts (12 volts @ 1.5 amps) power profiles through its Type-A output port. 

It's fastest to charge your USB Power Delivery capable devices like the Apple's 11-inch iPad Pro (2018) and MacBook 12" Retina 2017 or the Dell XPS 13 9370 and the Google Pixelbook using a USB Type-C to Type-C cable or your iPhone X with the Apple USB-C to Lightning Cable. You can also use a USB Type-C to Type-A cable if you want to charge QC based phones like the LG, HTC, ZTE and Motorola phones or any other standard smartphones and tablets.

There is no cable accessory for the Linocell 45W PD Car Charger which means you will need to use your own cable with the charger.  

To observe the power capabilities of the Linocell 45W PD Car Charger, we used the USB Power Test App from Granite River Labs with the Granite River Labs USB Power Delivery Compliance C2 Tester to generate the following test results.

The USB Power Test App first negotiates a power contract for every PDO supported by the Linocell charger, and increases the load gradually to find the threshold where over current protection (OCP) kicks in and voltage and current start to drop for safety reasons.

The USB Power Test App reports out all the PDO's supported by the Linocell charger and their OCP thresholds. Note the 9V OCP is missing which is part of USB-IF spec requirements for a power charger. OCP threshold is also very high for the 20V PDO.

The USB Power Test App from Granite River Labs takes this data to produce an I-V curve which graphically shows the relationship between voltage and current for each PDO. We can observe current fold-back behavior as well as voltage instability when the current approaches the OCP trigger point for each PDO. We can see that the current for 20V PDO just drops without reaching the 5.35A OCP threshold.

Using the USB Power Test App and FLIR thermal imaging tools, we measured the heat emitted by the Linocell charger as seen in the following temperature graph for the highest 20V, 2.25A PDO, which recorded max temperature of around 62.3 degree Celsius.

Using the USB Power Delivery Compliance C2 Tester from Granite River Labs to run just a subset of the full USB Power Delivery compliance test suite, we can confirm that the Linocell charger supports the following fixed PDO's as claimed- 15 watts (5 volts @ 3 amps), 45 watts (15 volts @ 3 amps) and 45 watts (20 volts @ 2.25 amps). Note a compliance failure was also observed for this charger.
