A Quick Look at the Xiaomi VR Headset
The HTC VIVE and Oculus Rift may be a bit pricey for a lot of people, but true to form, Xiaomi has gone the opposite direction with one of the lowest cost ways to dip your toes into virtual reality other than Google Cardboard.
Like Google's Cardboard, the Xiaomi VR Headset is basically a cover that you can slip in your smartphone into and doesn't have real active electronic components.
The Xiaomi VR Headset, currently sold in China, arrived with the box a bit damaged.
Inside the box is just the Xiaomi VR Headset, velcro straps, and instructions. You simply place the smartphone with its display facing inside on the headset.
Like Google Cardboard, there is a single button used to operate the virtual controls.
The Xiaomi VR Headset should have enough room to be able to fit most glasses.
At some point when popularity grows, HTC VIVE and Oculus Rift level VR solutions should come down in price- but in the meantime, the majority of us will be experimenting with VR by using their smartphones with inexpensive products like the Xiaomi VR Headset.
