The Apple 15" MacBook Pro (Late 2016) supports USB Power Delivery but what happens when you try to charge it using the Google 18W USB-C Power Adapter which also supports USB Power Delivery?
To see the charging activity between these two devices, we will use the software from Granite River Labs to capture the USB Power Delivery Protocol transactions.
We see here that the Google 18W USB-C Power Adapter is able to supply 15 watts (5 volts @ 3 amps) and 18 watts (9 volts @ 2 amps) over the USB Type-C connector.
The Apple 15" MacBook Pro (Late 2016) then requests 18 watts (9 volts @ 2 amps) of charging from the Google 18W USB-C Power Adapter.
We can confirm that the Apple 15" MacBook Pro (Late 2016) is pulling about 9 volts @ 1 amps from the Google 18W USB-C Power Adapter while the Mac's battery is well charged.
