The Xiaomi Mi 5 phone only supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 and does not enable USB Power Delivery charging. But when charging the phone using the Choetech PD51-1C1U 51W Dual Port USB Type-C PD Wall Charger over USB Type-C, we observed Qualcomm Quick Charge negotiation even though the Choetech charger is USB-IF certified.

Upon plugin to the Choetech PD51-1C1U 51W Dual Port USB Type-C PD Wall Charger through the USB Type-C port, it took over 10 seconds for the Mi 5 to only start off pulling current which changed rapidly at starting voltage of 5 volts. As the voltage increased close to 9 volts, the current did not stabilize but quickly dropped to near zero when the voltage went down to 5 volts rail. This resulted in almost no charging for about 10 seconds after which the current then could be seen to briefly spike up to around 1.5 amps @4.8 volts. When the voltage rose back up to around 8.8 volts, the phone finally started to pull a more steady current to charge at about 7 watts (8.8 volts @ 0.8 amps). When reaching 40 seconds of charging, higher current was pulled up to about 1.5 amps where eventually the phone got around 12.3 watts (8.8 volts @ 1.4 amps) of steady charging. With the Choetech charger, the Mi 5 can achieve almost similar charging power as compared to using its own shipped 12W based Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 charger. It's good to see that the Choetech PD51-1C1U 51W Dual Port USB Type-C PD Wall Charger supports charging well with the Xiaomi phone using Qualcomm Quick Charge.
