Seagate’s First Portable USB Type-C Drive- The LaCie Porsche Design USB-C Mobile Drive
The LaCie Porsche Design USB-C Mobile Drive is designed to impress with a cool look and the new USB Type-C interface. Like many of LaCie's drives (LaCie is now owned by Seagate), it's built to look good next to a Mac especially the Apple MacBook (Early 2015) which uses one USB Type-C port for everything.
The LaCie Porsche Design USB-C Mobile Drive only supports USB 3.1 Gen 1 (5 Gb/s) speeds and is available in 1 TB, 2 TB, and 4 TB storage capacities.
Opening up the LaCie Porsche Design USB-C Mobile Drive box reveals the drive, a USB Type-C to Type-C cable, and a USB Type-C to Type-A cable.
The LaCie Porsche Design USB-C Mobile Drive has a metal casing and a polished ridged edge to provide a unique look. The USB Type-C port is a lot more compact and slimmer than the previous USB Type-B ports used and you no longer have to worry about which direction you insert the plug into the receptacle. All power comes through the USB Type-C port so you don't need to bring an extra AC power adapter with you when travelling.
Note that the LaCie Porsche Design USB-C Mobile Drive does not support USB Power Delivery even though the USB Type-C port is used. It's cousin, the LaCie Porsche Design USB-C Desktop Drive does support USB Power Delivery to charge the Apple MacBook (Early 2015).
