While the San Francisco Bay Area typically has good air quality, forest fires in the surrounding area can severely impact air quality. Unfortunately, it's generally hard to monitor how bad the air quality can be other than looking at news reports.  For young children or those with asthma or just sensitive to poor air quality, it's useful to know how bad air quality can be especially since it can vary quite a bit indoors.

With the Kaiterra Laser Egg 2, we can see that with the forest fires, the normally good air quality has turned to an unhealthy AQI (US) of 167 and 85 microgram cubic meter of PM2.5 (atmospheric particulate matter that have a diameter less than 2.5 micrometers).

This measurement was translated into 9948 particle count of particles between .3 to 10 microns in .1 liter of air volume.

By going inside, we could see that the AQI (US) level improved to 122 but still unhealthy for people with air quality sensitivity.

Using central air conditioning air filters like the 3M Filtrete, we can see their effectiveness after turning on the central air fan. After a while, the AQI (US) level drops down to 57 and eventually goes back to more healthy 42.

The Kaiterra Laser Egg 2 shows how effective the 3M Filtrete can be indoors when the air quality outside is really bad. The more you know, the more steps you can take to keep everyone healthy and safe.
