Since the Stone was produced by Henge Docks to primarily target USB Type-C based Apple Mac's, you can use it to charge your Apple MacBook (Early 2016) besides adding on connectivity interfaces. This is useful if you are on the road and need to quickly charge up your Mac between meetings.

To enable charging using USB Power Delivery technology, we plug in the Apple MacBook (Early 2016) to the USB Type-C port at the side of the Stone with a USB Type-C to Type-C cable. We then observe through Granite River Labs GRL-USB-PD-A1 power analyzer to see how the  87 watts based Stone talks to the Mac over USB Power Delivery protocol negotiations.

While the Apple MacBook (Early 2016) is 60% charged, we can see that the Stone only begins to declare 15 watts (5 volts @ 3 amps), 36 watts (12 volts @ 3 amps), and 87 watts (20 volts @ 4.36 amps) power profiles after initial soft reset and Vendor Defined power ID transactions.

The Apple MacBook (Early 2016) then requests 30 watts (20 volts @ 1.5 amps) which is accepted by the Stone.

We then observe the Mac goes on to swap data roles with the dock, which is later followed by a soft reset to eventually trigger a series of  Vendor Defined Messages between the devices.

Here we can see the Mac also supports DisplayPort Alt Mode with the dock when exchanging Vendor Defined Messages.

While at 60% battery level upon initial plugin of the Apple MacBook (Early 2016), the Mac is already on when it begins to trickle charge by pulling quick changing current at about 20.4 volts during first power request and subsequent power delivery protocol communications. As the current level settles out, the Mac goes on to draw around 30.5 watts (20.3 volts @ 1.5 amps) over stable charging with the Stone.

Not surprisingly, the Stone is able to deliver the requested power to charge the Apple MacBook (Early 2016) as quickly as expected from the Apple 29W USB-C Power Adapter that was originally given for the Mac. The Stone not only makes a great replacement power source in case the Mac is missing its own charger and in need of AC power, but also serves to expand the Mac's limited connectivity options.
