In addition to USB Type-C ports, the Henge Docks Stone also provides three USB 3.1 Gen 1 enabled USB Type-A ports to connect to peripherals. The USB Type-A port that is labeled with a charging symbol can be used to charge downstream devices such as the Apple iPhone X at up to 10 watts (5 volts @ 2 amps). Although the iPhone X supports USB Power Delivery based charging, don't expect any USB Power Delivery protocol negotiation to happen over charging given that the USB Type-A connector generally doesn't support USB Power Delivery.

When connected over a compliant USB Type-A to Lightning cable, we can see how well the Stone's USB Type-A charging out port works with the iPhone X using the Granite River Labs GRL-USB-PD-A1 power analyzer. With voltage starting out at around 5.2 volts, no current is pulled upon plugging in the iPhone at 10% full battery while turned on. Charging only starts to happen when close to 15 seconds where the iPhone starts pulling quick changing current as the voltage lowers slightly to about 4.9 volts. Both voltage and current then settle out to eventually achieve charging at around 9.3 watts (4.9 volts @ 1.9 amps).

It's great to see that the iPhone X well supports the USB Type-A charging out port on the Stone to charge even faster than using the original Apple's supplied USB Type-A charger that provides only 5 watts based charging. The iPhone was also observed to work fine when tested with the non USB Power Delivery enabled USB Type-C port at the back of the Henge Docks Stone in this recent review.
