The Samsung Galaxy S8 supports DisplayPort 1.2 over its USB Type-C connector but unfortunately it doesn't work with the Dell USB-C to HDMI/VGA/Ethernet/USB 3.0 Adapter (DA200).

We first connected the Dell USB-C to HDMI/VGA/Ethernet/USB 3.0 Adapter (DA200) to a LG B6 OLED 4K HDR Smart TV - 65" Class using a HDMI  cable.

The Dell USB-C to HDMI/VGA/Ethernet/USB 3.0 Adapter (DA200) has a tethered USB Type-C cable which we then inserted into the Samsung Galaxy S8.

Unfortunately, we weren't able to see any image appear on the TV from the Samsung Galaxy S8.

We were able to output video from the LG G5 through the Dell USB-C to HDMI/VGA/Ethernet/USB 3.0 Adapter (DA200) to the LG B6 OLED 4K HDR Smart TV - 65" Class so it was surprising that the Samsung Galaxy S8 doesn't work using the same setup.

Taking a look at the USB Power Delivery transactions, we can see that the Samsung Galaxy S8 is also able to enter the DisplayPort 1.2 Alternate Mode similar to the way that the LG G5 was able to as seen in this review.

We can see that when connected to the Dell USB-C to HDMI/VGA/Ethernet/USB 3.0 Adapter (DA200) and LG B6 OLED 4K HDR Smart TV - 65" Class, the Samsung Galaxy S8 shows there is a HDMI cable connected but apparently there is some problem with the DisplayPort output in the Galaxy phone working with the DisplayPort to HDMI converter in the Dell adapter.
