The Dell XPS 12 9250 Laptop is marketed as a 2 in 1 convertible laptop that can be used as a tablet.  It's convenient when you are on the go but what happens if you need something larger than a 13" display?

LG came out with the LG 27 inch Class Ultra HD IPS 4K 27UD88-W Monitor just for this situation.  You can directly connect a USB Type-C to USB Type-C cable between the LG monitor and the XPS 12.  Make sure that you use a proper cable like the one that comes with the LG monitor itself and not one of the USB Type-C charging cables like the Apple USB-C Charge Cable (2m) that only support charging and USB 2.0 connections.

The user can determine which of the XPS 12 9250 Laptop's two USB Type-C ports they would like to utilize.  Since both support Thunderbolt 3 technology, you can use either of them to connect a 4K@60hz display like the LG 27 inch Class Ultra HD IPS 4K 27UD88-W Monitor.

After connecting the LG monitor, this display should enumerate rather quickly, and in our case, mirror the screen on the XPS 12

Going to the Windows Display settings allows us to use the LG monitor as an extension or just a mirror of the XPS 12's screen.  If using the LG monitor in screen extension mode, you can also position the monitor on the left side or right side of the laptop's screen, but make sure you apply the changes of making it an extended monitor prior to shifting its position.

Note the LG monitor also works with the XPS 12 while in tablet mode in case you just want to enjoy the monitor while surfing or watching videos.

Reattaching the XPS 12 to its keyboard base to get back into a notebook configuration, interrupted the display briefly, but the display connection stayed stable otherwise.

The LG 27 inch Class Ultra HD IPS 4K 27UD88-W Monitor functions perfectly as a 4K@60hz extended monitor and it even conveniently charges the Dell XPS 12 9250 Laptop in the process.  Click here to see how well the monitor charges the XPS 12.
