The PowerGear USB-C 45 by Innergie is a convenient AC power adapter to bring on your travels which can be used to charge most USB Type-C devices supporting USB Power Delivery like the Huawei P10 phone.

To see what goes on when the Innergie PowerGear USB-C 45 charges the Huawei P10, we capture the USB Power Delivery Protocol transactions when the phone's battery is 6% charged. The Innergie charger starts to advertise 4 different power profiles: 15 watts (5 volts @ 3 amps), 36 watts (12 volts @ 3 amps), 45 watts (15 volts @ 3 amps) and 45 watts (20 volts @ 2.25 amps) when connected to the Huawei phone over USB Type-C.

We can see that the Huawei P10 requests an initial 10 watts (5 volts @ 2 amps) of charging from the Innergie charger which it accepts.

We can also verify that the Huawei P10 draws around 10 watts (5 volts @ 2 amps) in the first 4 minutes from 6% battery while the phone is off. After we turn on and actively using the phone, the current drops to below 1 amps at 5 volts and remains the same for about 2 minutes. The phone then goes into sleep mode and we can see the current goes back up to charge at the initial 10 watts (5 volts @ 2 amps). But after we wake the phone up it returns to repeat charging at below 1 amps @ 5 volts. We also observe the same charging pattern repeating itself at the same power levels for some time while the phone alternates between sleep and active modes.

The Innergie PowerGear USB-C 45 is still able to charge the Huawei P10 over USB Power Delivery, but 10 watts is much lower than what the phone  can get from its own Huawei SuperCharge charger or when used with other USB Power Delivery based chargers like the iVoler 75W USB Type C Charger in this review or the BatPower PD6 (click here).
