Among the many USB Power Delivery based chargers, what makes the AUKEY PA-Y10 Amp PD 3.0 USB-C Wall Charger special is supporting USB Power Delivery 3.0. Having the latest PD technology should provide more efficient charging at lower temperatures over the USB Type-C connector.
The AUKEY PA-Y10 Amp PD 3.0 USB-C Wall Charger has both a single USB Type-C and Type-A port which is also similar to another model, the AUKEY PA-Y11 Amp PD USB-C Wall Charger. While the PA-Y11 charger supports only USB PD 2.0 over USB-C, it does come useful if you own Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 enabled devices which you can charge using the other USB-A port. Instead of Qualcomm Quick Charge, the PA-Y10 charger only provides legacy 5V charging from its USB Type-A port.
The AUKEY PA-Y10 Amp PD 3.0 USB-C Wall Charger comes in standard Aukey packaging which we unpack here to take a closer look.
Similar with other Aukey products, you will get a 24-month warranty card and an instruction manual.
Through USB Power Delivery 3.0 technology, the Aukey USB Type-C port can supply 15 watts (5 volts @ 3 amps), 27 watts (9 volts @ 3 amps), 36 watts (12 volts @ 3 amps), 45 watts (15 volts @ 3 amps), and 46 watts (20 volts @ 2.3 amps) of charging over standard Power Data Objects (PDO) protocol negotiation contract. The Type-C port also supports an additional variable power supply of 3-16 volts @ 3 amps range.
The charger also has a non USB Power Delivery based USB Type-A port which can independently provide 10.5 watts of charging (5 volts @ 2.1 amps).
The charger design is apparent on most other Aukey wall chargers which is also compact and comes with foldable AC power prongs.
With up to 46 watts of USB Power Delivery 3.0 based charging, you can use the USB Type-C port on the AUKEY PA-Y10 Amp PD 3.0 USB-C Wall Charger to charge a variety of popular notebook PC's, tablets, mobile phones, game consoles, and action cameras. The USB Type-A port can be used to charge an iPhone with a Apple USB-C to Lightning Cable or Android phones with a USB Type-A to Micro-B or USB Type-A to Type-C cable. The USB Type-A port doesn't use USB Power Delivery to provide the 10.5 watts of charging but this level of charging still provides decently fast charging to a lot of phones.
For faster charging, take advantage of the USB Type-C port to charge your notebook PC or your iPhone X, 10.5-inch iPad Pro, and other phones and tablets that use USB Power Delivery technology.
The AUKEY PA-Y10 Amp PD 3.0 USB-C Wall Charger makes it handy for charging two devices at the same time but just make sure you don't need more than 56W of charging when using this charger.
Using the USB Power Test App from Granite River Labs with the Granite River Labs USB Power Delivery Compliance C2 Tester, we ran the following power tests for the AUKEY PA-Y10 Amp PD 3.0 USB-C Wall Charger to look at its power capabilities.
The USB Power Test App first negotiates a power contract for every PDO supported by the Aukey charger, and increases the load gradually to find the threshold where over current protection (OCP) kicks in and voltage and current start to drop for safety reasons. As seen below the charger had problems negotiating to 12V and 20V during the test.
The USB Power Test App reports out all the PDO's supported by the Aukey charger and their OCP thresholds.
PDO | OCP (A) | %OCP |
---|---|---|
PDO#1 Fixed: 5V 3A | 3.67 | 122.2% |
PDO#2 Fixed: 9V 3A | 3.57 | 119.1% |
PDO#3 Fixed: 12V 3A | 4.6 | 153.2% |
PDO#4 Fixed: 15V 3A | 3.48 | 116% |
PDO#5 Fixed: 20V 2.3A | 3.45 | 150% |
PDO#6 PPS: (3~16)V 3A | 3.07 | 102.2% |
The USB Power Test App from Granite River Labs also produces an I-V curve which graphically shows the relationship between voltage and current for each PDO. Like other chargers that support PPS (Programmable Power Supply), we can observe current fold-back behavior where as the current increases beyond the OCP threshold, the voltage starts to drop down rather than immediately shutting off. The 4th and 6th PDO's show more dramatic fold-back behavior compared to the other PDO's.
Since the AUKEY PA-Y10 Amp PD 3.0 USB-C Wall Charger is a multi port charger, the USB Power Test App can be used to determine whether each output port of the charger is able to supply power independently. For every PDO supported by the Aukey charger, the USB Power Test App increases the load gradually for both the USB Type-C and Type-A ports to detect any power loss at the highest load limit for each port.

The USB Power Test App can also use the Granite River Labs USB Power Delivery Compliance C2 Tester integrated with the GW Instek APS-7100 programmable AC power supply to compare the charger's power output vs power input so that power efficiency can be measured and compared to regulatory limits from United States of Energy (DOE) Level VI or European Union's CoC Tier 2 requirements. We can repeat the power efficiency tests for different PDO's, current load conditions, and different AC input ranges, allowing us to get a complete picture of power efficiency ranges across all different usage scenarios.
Using the USB Power Delivery Compliance C2 Tester from Granite River Labs to run just a subset of the full USB Power Delivery compliance test suite, some USB Power Delivery 3.0 compliance failures were observed for the AUKEY PA-Y10 Amp PD 3.0 USB-C Wall Charger.
