If you have an iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch, and want to ditch using a 3.5 mm audio headphone, Apple has the EarPods with Lightning Connector which works as long as you upgrade to iOS 10. This will come in handy with the Apple iPhone 7 and future iPhone models that no longer have a 3.5 mm audio port.
The EarPods with Lightning Connector gives you touch control for playback, volume, and Siri control operations. Compared to the Earpods that use the 3.5 mm audio connector, there should be more power drawn from the iPhone's battery but probably not enough to significantly impact battery life. We are sure going forward there will be many more headphones, both simple and advanced, that will use the Lightning connector.
If you need to use the Lightning connector for charging, you can also consider going wireless and use the Beats PowerBeats2 Wireless or Apple AirPods.
