Like Amazon which has a series of dedicated voice controlled assistants like the Amazon Echo, Amazon Tap, and Echo Dot (2nd Generation), Google offers Google Home which supports Google Assistant.
With Google Assistant, you can use voice commands though your Chromecast to cast movies or video to your TV or other smart home devices like Nest or Philips Hue to monitor and control lights, thermostats, locks, security systems, and power outlets in your home. Google Home uses Wi-Fi to connect to these devices, and you can use the Google Home App to control all these devices. We had used the Google Home App previously for setting up Chromecast on the Google Pixel in this review.
Just like Amazon, simply plug Google Home in to start asking it to fetch the weather forecast or news, play some music, set alarms or timers, or control some of your home automated devices. Similarly Google Home also has far-field microphones to let you hear from any direction.
As with most voice control platforms, Google Home is integrated with natural language processing capability for speech recognition. There's a touch panel to let you control the device as well as a mute button to put the microphones on standby.
