Apple Uses Own M1 Chip on the Thunderbolt 4 Enabled Apple MacBook Air 2020 M1
The Apple MacBook Air 2020 M1 is among the few recent computers to support Thunderbolt 4 technology with competitors such as the Dell XPS 13 9310. Each of the two Thunderbolt 4 ports on the Mac not only allows up to two 4K@60Hz displays to be connected but can also link up one 8K display or even docks or hubs with up to four Thunderbolt 4 ports.
Thunderbolt 4 also enables the Mac to support 100W rapid charging through USB Power Delivery 3.0 technology as well as 32 Gb/s PCIe speeds.
Rather than using the Intel Core chipset which ran on the previous generation Apple 13-in MacBook Air (2019), the Apple MacBook Air 2020 M1 is powered by Apple's owned M1 system on a chip (SoC) to offer a faster 8-core CPU and GPU, 16-core Neural Engine Machine Learning (ML) technology, 16GB RAM, 2TB SSD and macOS Big Sur. The Apple MacBook Air 2020 M1 is also equipped with the latest Wi-Fi 6 (up to 1.2 Gb/s speeds) and Bluetooth 5.0 technology.
The Apple MacBook Air 2020 M1 is shipped with similar accessories as with the 13-in MacBook Air (2019) which include a Apple 30W USB Type-C power adapter and USB Type-C cable.
The Apple 30W USB-C Power Adapter accessory supports USB Power Delivery over Type-C for fast charging using 30 watts (20 volts @ 1.5 amps), 30 watts (15 volts @ 2 amps), 27 watts (9 volts @ 3 amps) and 15 watts (5 volts @ 3 amps) power profiles.
The Apple MacBook Air 2020 M1 has two Thunderbolt 4 based USB Type-C ports on one side of the Mac supporting Thunderbolt 4 (40 Gb/s), USB 3.2 Gen 2 (10 Gb/s), DisplayPort 1.4 and USB Power Delivery 3.0. You can plug in the Apple 30W USB-C Power Adapter to one of these ports for power supply.
Like the previous 13-in MacBook Air (2019), the Apple MacBook Air 2020 M1 provides a similar Butterfly keyboard and Force Touch trackpad.
