How the Hama USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C Cable with USB Power Delivery (1 m, 10 Gb/s, 5A) Looks Like
If needing a faster USB Type-C to Type-C cable than the Hama USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C Cable (.75 m), you can use the Hama USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C Cable (1 m). By supporting USB 3.1 Gen 2, the Hama USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C Cable (1 m) can provide up to 10Gb/s data transfer when connected to your USB Type-C computers, tablets, phones and storage drives. The Hama cable also supports USB Power Delivery 2.0 for rapid pass through charging over the USB Type-C interface.
Hama advertises on its product page that its 1 m cable comes with Electronic Marking for 5 amps charging and 10 Gb/s transfer rate as well as supporting full USB 3.1 features. The Hama USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C Cable (1 m) also claims to offer up to 100 watts (20 volts @ 5 amps) pass through charging using USB Power Delivery. However like its .75 m cable, Hama does not use the USB-IF certification logo on the packaging of its 1 m cable as well.
Both the Hama .75 m and 1 m cable versions come with gold plated connectors, claiming to allow signals to pass through the cables more securely.
Using the GRL DI20 cable tester to test the insertion loss through the Hama USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C Cable (1 m), we can see minor violations of the USB specification limits. However when compared to the StarTech 10 Gb/s USB 3.1 Gen 2 Cable (1 m), the StarTech cable has much better overall signal integrity performance than the Hama USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C Cable (1 m) even though they are the same length. The Hama USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C Cable (1 m) has a lot more energy loss at higher frequencies compared to the StarTech 10 Gb/s USB 3.1 Gen 2 Cable (1 m)- this means there is less chance of USB compatibility issues especially for higher speed USB link rates like 10 Gb/s.
Here's a quick look at the Hama USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C Cable (1 m) after it was purchased from a MediaMarkt retail store in Germany.
