The LG K30 Phone is Simply Affordable But Limited to Only Micro-B Connector and Legacy USB Charging
While premium flagship phones are a main target of many major wireless mobile service providers worldwide, certain U.S. based mobile carriers like Xfinity Mobile by Comcast also offers a few low cost wireless options. These include certain Android phones such as the LG K30 and Motorola Moto e5 Play, both come with very affordable pricing through Xfinity Mobile.
Since this is a lower end phone, the LG K30 lacks support of USB Type-C which still uses a micro-B connector. The phone also doesn't support fast charging through Qualcomm Quick Charge technology which is found on higher end LG phones such as the LG V30 and the more recent LG G7 ThinQ that uses Qualcomm Quick Charge 4+ technology.
The LG K30 is in fact very similar to the Motorola Moto e5 Play not just by having the same micro-B connector with no support of Qualcomm Quick Charge but also most of the key specs. For instance both phones support Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 quad core processor, Adreno 308 GPU, 2GB RAM, 16GB internal storage, 128GB microSD card reader and Bluetooth 4.2 although the Motorola phone uses a newer Android 8.0 Oreo as opposed to Android 7.1 Nougat on the the LG phone.
Let's have a quick a look at the LG K30 after we purchased through Xfinity Mobile.
It's nice to see that LG still provides sophisticated packaging for a low cost phone like the LG K30.
The phone can be seen immediately once the box is opened which has the Xfinity Mobile branding printed on a removable plastic cover over its screen. You will need to first go to the Xfinity Mobile website to activate the phone before turning it on.
The LG K30 is bundled with a LG branded USB Type-A based ac wall adapter, a USB Type-A to micro-B cable and documentation.
The phone has a premium quality to it with its glossy metallic body and 720x1280 pixels TFT display.
Like the Motorola Moto e5 Play, the LG K30 has both a 5MP front and 8MP rear camera as well as a rear fingerprint sensor and 3.5 mm headphone jack.
The decent feature set and cheap pricing of the LG K30 makes it suitable for those just wanting a simple phone for everyday use. We'll be testing this phone with various chargers in the next coming reviews.
