Get the Benefits of 4k@60hz and 50 watts of USB Power Delivery Charging with the ASUS Designo MX27UC Type-C Display

The Designo MX27UC Eye Care Monitor is a 27-inch 4K LCD display by ASUS that supports all the popular interfaces for 4k@60hz video such as HDMI 2.0 and DisplayPort 1.2 over both the standard DisplayPort connector and USB Type-C connector. Using the USB Type-C connector, the Designo MX27UC Eye Care Monitor has a further advantage of being able to charge your laptop, tablet, or phone through the USB Type-C connector using USB Power Delivery 2.0 technology.

We purchased the Designo MX27UC Eye Care Monitor through Amazon Prime which came in a typical monitor box that listed its support of 4k@60hz  over DisplayPort and HDMI.

The Designo MX27UC Eye Care Monitor comes with a monitor base, AC power adapter, USB 3.1 Type-C to Type-C cable, USB 3.1 Type-C to Type-A cable, HDMI cable, standard DisplayPort cable, and 3.5mm audio cable.

The 120W power supply is needed to not only support the monitor's functions but also deliver up to 50 watts of charging to your computer over USB Type-C.

The Designo MX27UC Eye Care Monitor supports different charging levels through USB Power Delivery technology including 15 watts (5 volts @ 3 amps), 27 watts (9 volts @ 3 amps), 36 watts (12 volts @ 3 amps), 45 watts (15 volts @ 3 amps), and 50 watts (20 volts @ 2.5 amps).

The Designo MX27UC Eye Care Monitor also allows you to add USB devices through two USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A connectors.

Interestingly unlike charger accessories, the Designo MX27UC Eye Care Monitor does not display how much power it can provide over its USB Type-C connector.

There are a lot of buttons at the bottom of the Designo MX27UC Eye Care Monitor, which can make it quite difficult to figure out which ones to press.

To set up the Designo MX27UC Eye Care Monitor, you will need to first install the base (no screwdriver needed).

Using the USB Power Delivery Compliance C2 Tester from Granite River Labs to run just a subset of the full USB Power Delivery compliance test suite, we can confirm that the Designo MX27UC Eye Care Monitor supports these PDO's for charging: 15 watts (5 volts @ 3 amps), 27 watts (9 volts @ 3 amps), 36 watts (12 volts @ 3 amps), 45 watts (15 volts @ 3 amps), and 50 watts (20 volts @ 2.5 amps). Note some compliance failures were observed.
