Sharp's AQUOS R compact Phone Makes the Most of USB-C Fast Charging with USB Power Delivery and Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0

With Qualcomm making USB Power Delivery technology readily available to mobile phone brands using its Snapdragon processor, Sharp now has phones supporting USB Power Delivery like the AQUOS R compact.

Carried by SoftBank in Japan, the Sharp AQUOS R compact is one of the few phones that support both USB Power Delivery 2.0 and Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 technology for fast charging over the USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C (5 Gb/s) connector.

Another phone carried by SoftBank, the Sony Xperia XZ1 also supports USB Power Delivery 2.0 and Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 over USB Type-C.

Unlike the Sony Xperia XZ1, the AQUOS R compact comes with a lower end Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chipset but also runs on Android 8.0. The AQUOS R compact also supports 3 GB RAM with 32 GB ROM internal memory, up to 400 GB  microSDXC slot, 16.4MP front and 8MP rear CMOS cameras, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, 802.11abgn(ac) WI-FI, and Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection among its available features.

The AQUOS R compact is the smaller follow on version of the AQUOS-R, which is showcased at the Sharp Mobile Phone Museum in Tokyo Station, Japan. The AQUOS-R supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 but not USB Power Delivery.

To rapidly charge the AQUOS R compact, you can use either the SoftBank SELECTION USB Type-C Fast Charging AC Adapter which uses Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 over USB Type-C or the Softbank SELECTION USB PD Enabled USB Type-C Fast Charging AC Adapter which uses USB Power Delivery. You should be able to also use other Qualcomm Quick Charge and USB Power Delivery chargers with this phone as well.

Like the Sony Xperia XZ1, the Sharp AQUOS R compact comes with the legacy 3.5mm audio jack and doesn't have DisplayPort video support. Additionally, simply by lifting the AQUOS phone, you can turn its screen on without having to press the power button, which is a unique feature of the phone.

With affordable pricing and decent specs, the AQUOS R compact is a good choice for those in Japan needing a budget friendly Android phone with both USB Power Delivery and Qualcomm Quick Charge support.
