A Quick Look at USB Power Delivery Support on the Acer Chromebook R 13 and Its 45W Chicony Charger

The Acer Chromebook R 13 uses a MediaTek MT8173C ARM based processor and has a USB Type-C port that supports 45W of USB Power Delivery charging, DisplayPort 1.2, and USB 3.1 Gen 1 (5 Gb/s).

The Acer Chromebook R 13 also conveniently has a HDMI 1.4 connector, micro SD card slot, USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A port, and 3.5mm audio jack connector.

The Acer Chromebook R 13 uses a Chicony 45W USB Power Delivery based charger which also supports 15 watts (5 volts @ 3 amps), 27 watts (9 volts @ 3 amps), 45 watts (15 volts @ 3 amps), and 45 watts (20 volts @ 2.25 amps). This charger can be used to charge other devices that support USB Power Delivery.

Using the USB Power Delivery Compliance C2 Tester from Granite River Labs to run just a subset of the full USB Power Delivery compliance test suite, we are able to verify that the following PDO's: 15 watts (5 volts @ 3 amps), 27 watts (9 volts @ 3 amps), 45 watts (15 volts @ 3 amps), and 45 watts (20 volts @ 2.25 amps) are supported by the Acer Chromebook R 13. Note some compliance failures were observed.
