Upgrade the Graphics Performance of Your HP Elite x2 1012 G2 and More Using the TUL PowerColor Devil Box
Tablet PC's like the HP Elite x2 1012 G2 makes a handy and portable device which comes with Thunderbolt 3 technology. Rather than being limited to its built-in Intel's internal graphics processor, the HP Elite x2 1012 G2's single Thunderbolt 3 port enables the tablet to get added power from external graphics cards to boost graphics performance. This allows the tablet's PCI Express bus to be extended outside the computer, allowing PCI Express based graphics cards to be used in external graphics docks like the TUL-PowerColor Devil Box.
With the TUL-PowerColor Devil Box, you can add a top of the line graphics card like TUL's PowerColor Red Devil Radeon RX 480 8GB GDDR5, significantly ramping up the graphics performance of whatever media or application you are running on the HP Elite x2 1012 G2.
To connect the TUL-PowerColor Devil Box with the HP Elite x2 1012 G2, you will need a 40 Gb/s Thunderbolt 3 cable that comes with the TUL PowerColor Devil Box or you can use a third party cable like the Belkin Thunderbolt 3 40Gbps USB-C Cable (0.5m).
Since the TUL-PowerColor Devil Box has two USB Type-C ports, ensure that you connect the HP Elite x2 1012 G2 using the Thunderbolt 3 cable to the USB Type-C port on the TUL-PowerColor Devil Box that has the Thunderbolt logo. The TUL-PowerColor Devil Box also acts like a docking station with three USB 3.1 Gen 1 (5 Gb/s) Type-A, one USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C port, and one Gigabit Ethernet port.
To look at how much additional performance could be gained by using the TUL-PowerColor Devil Box with the PowerColor Red Devil Radeon RX 480 8GB GDDR5, we ran the Rise of the Tomb Raider's DX12 benchmarking to compare frames per second (fps) results.
Without the TUL-PowerColor Devil Box, we only got an overall score of 2.58 fps running the game on an external 4K display.
By adding the TUL-PowerColor Devil Box, we were able to see a drastic increase in performance, achieving an overall score of 32.56 fps while running the game on the same 4K display.
The TUL-PowerColor Devil Box not only boosts graphics performance but also able to provide USB Power Delivery charging for the HP Elite x2 1012 G2 while connected over Thunderbolt 3.
From the USB Power Delivery negotiations, we can see that the TUL-PowerColor Devil Box offers 15 watts (5 volts @ 3 amps), 36 watts (12 volts @ 3 amps), and 60 watts (20 volts @ 3 amps) to the HP Elite x2 1012 G2. The tablet in turn requests to pull 36 watts (12 volts @ 3 amps) which the TUL-PowerColor Devil Box accepts.
We can confirm that the HP Elite x2 1012 G2 is pulling close to 12 volts and 3 amps from the TUL-PowerColor Devil Box with the tablet's battery being half charged.
The TUL-PowerColor Devil Box is a convenient way to rapidly enhance graphics performance to certain Thunderbolt 3 tablet PC's like the HP Elite x2 1012 G2. Plus, you can use the TUL-PowerColor Devil Box as a docking solution for high speed LAN gaming and adding additional USB accessories like storage, mice, gaming controllers and keyboards.
