Wearables at CES

Although not as big a hit compared to earlier years, wearables still had a significant presence at CES 2017.

Fitbit had a large display area but didn't release any new wearable products at CES unlike in CES 216 where it created a big splash around their first smartwatch, the Fitbit Blaze.  This year Fitbit focused more on software and partnerships with other fitness companies like Peloton through their 'Works with Fitbit' platform which competes with Apple's HealthKit.

While Fitbit felt they had the size and scale to compete directly with Apple, more other smaller wearable companies have chosen to partner with Apple (like Fitbit did in its early days) by being compatible with HealthKit and working with Apple's Health App.

Qardio released the Qardio Core, world's first wearable ECG/EKG monitor that is HomeKit compatible.  The QardioCore complements Quadio's other HomeKit compatible devices like the QardioArm blood pressure monitor and QardioBase smart scale.

Many of iHealth's products are Apple HealthKit compatible.

Nokia's Withings is another strong Apple supporter with products like the Withings Blood Pressure Monitor and Withings Body WI-FI Scale & Health Tracker sold in the Apple Store.   At CES 2017, Withings showed their advanced Withings Body Cardio WI-FI Scale & Health Tracker to better monitor your cardiovascular health..

Withings also announced a new smart home camera products, the Withings Home Plus which is compatible with Apple HomeKit.

One of the star products of the Withings booth was the Withings Hair Coach, the first smart hairbrush to keep track of your hair's health.

At CES 2017, Misfit announced the Misfit Vapor, a smartphone packed full of features with a much lower price compared to the Apple Watch Series 2.  The Misfit Vapor is a departure for Misfit who had differentiated itself through wearables like the Misfit Phase which focused on design, minimum functionality, and six month battery life by using common watch batteries.

China's Mobvoi has a similar advanced phone, the ticwatch 2, which shares similar features and price point as the Misfit Vapor.

Netherlands based TomTom had a large display like Fitbit, but no new wearable products announced at CES 2017.

Although the wearables market has become very crowded and growth has slowed, there is still innovation going on especially with health devices and creating a diversity of fitness and smartphones products that has something for everyone.
