Compact Dell XPS 13 (Late 2016) Fits In A Beautiful Screen with Thunderbolt 3

The Dell XPS 13 9360 notebook arrived earlier than its higher end Dell XPS 13 9365 2-in-1 sibling which also supports Thunderbolt 3 (40 Gb/s) over the USB Type-C connector, with USB Power Delivery 2.0 and 4K video over DisplayPort 1.2.

We purchased the Dell XPS 13 9360 but only about 3 months of use we already got knocked out with a blue screen at power on. Other than that, there were no other major issues with the PC.

Our unit came in flimsy looking packaging but opens up to reveal the familiar XPS 13 box. Like other XPS models, the 45 watts AC power adapter is separately packed outside of the box.

The notebook comes in Rose Gold and pretty much looks like the conventional Dell PC.

On the left side, there's a single USB Type-C port enabled with Thunderbolt 3 (two PCIe Gen 3 lanes with PowerShare/DC-In and DisplayPort). This  Thunderbolt 3 based USB-C port provides USB 3.1 Gen 2 (10 Gb/s) and Thunderbolt 3 (40 Gb/s) for high speed data transfers, as well as supports 4K@60Hz display over DisplayPort 1.2.

Like the Dell XPS 13 9365, the USB-C port is integrated with Dell's own custom built USB PowerShare feature which enables power to be used from the battery to charge external USB devices. Compared to the XPS 13 9365 which offers two Thunderbolt 3 ports with four PCIe Gen 3 lanes for higher bandwidth, the XPS 13 9360 only has one Thunderbolt 3 port which is only supported by two PCIe Gen 3 lanes.

Other than USB-C, the left side of the Dell XPS 13 9360 also houses a regular USB 3.1 Gen 1 (5 Gbs/s) over USB Type-A connector, power adapter port, headset port, battery charge status button, and battery charge status lights.

The interfaces on the right include the SD card slot, USB 3.1 Gen 1 (5 Gbs/s) over USB Type-A connector with PowerShare, and Noble security lock slot.

The Dell XPS 13 9360 offers the same quality feel and texture on its keyboard and track pad like other XPS 13 series.

To start up the Dell XPS 13 9360 that runs on 7th Generation Intel Core with Windows 10, make sure you have plugged in the external power adapter and press the power button. You'll see a welcome screen where you can follow the instructions to set up the PC. We managed to complete the entire setup in just around 10 minutes with no issues.

The Dell XPS 13 9360's InfinityEdge display looks really good on its 13.3" FHD screen with a 1920 x 1080 resolution.
