The OPPO Reno2 Phone Comes with VOOC Flash Charge 3.0 and USB Power Delivery Over Type-C Support
OPPO is one of those smartphone brands having their own proprietary fast charging schemes like Samsung and Huawei. The VOOC flash charging system has been used by certain OPPO flagship phones such as the OPPO R9s and OPPO Reno2 for rapid charging.
The OPPO VOOC (Voltage Open Loop Multi-step Constant-Current Charging) circuit technology reportedly increases charging speed and provides safer charging by lowering the temperature of the charging adapter and creating an interface from the adapter to the phone.
The newer Super VOOC flash charging system claims to be able to charge up to 40% battery in just 10 minutes. The OPPO VOOC Flash Charge charger uses this technology to offer 20 watts (5 volts @ 4 amps) of rapid charging for supported OPPO phones like the OPPO Reno2. However 20W is still lower charging when compared to other competing brands like Samsung with their current 25W Samsung Super Fast based charging and Huawei with 40W SuperCharge.
Other than VOOC, the OPPO Reno2 can also charge its battery quickly using USB Power Delivery technology over Type-C.
Let's have a closer look at the OPPO Reno2 phone that we bought recently from an OPPO store.
This phone model comes with 256GB 8GB RAM along with Qualcomm SDM730 Snapdragon chipset, Adreno 618 GPU, Android 9.0 OS and Li-Po 4000mAh battery among its other specs.
The OPPO Reno2 phone is bundled together with earbuds, USB Type-A to Type-C cable, AC adapter, SIM ejector tool and casing as accessories.
The AC adapter supports OPPO VOOC Flash Charge for up to 20 watts (5 volts @ 4.0 amps) output which needs to be connected to the phone using the supplied USB Type-A to Type-C cable for fastest charging.
Note the OPPO Reno2 phone supports OPPO VOOC Flash Charge 3.0 for charging over its USB Type-C connector.
The OPPO Reno2 still uses the legacy 3.5 mm audio jack even when many other phones have switched to Type-C based audio.
The phone highlights some of its key features such as 48MP quad rear camera setup, 6.5 in AMOLED display with Corning Gorilla 6 protection and 5x Hybrid Zoom among others.
The four rear cameras consist of each a 48MP (wide), 13MP (telephoto), 8MP (ultrawide), and 2MP camera with up to 2160p@30fps video support.
On one side of the phone there are two distinct volume buttons while the other side has a power button and dual-SIM hybrid card slot.
Using the USB Power Delivery Compliance C2 Tester from Granite River Labs to run just a subset of the full USB Power Delivery compliance test suite, we can see that the OPPO Reno2 supports 15 watts (5 volts @ 3 amps), 27 watts (9 volts @ 3 amps) and 27 watts (12 volts @ 2.25 amps) power profiles for charging. Compliance failures were also observed for this phone.
