New Spectre x360 2017 Accelerates with Thunderbolt 3 in a Classy Convertible

The new Spectre x360 (2nd Generation 2017) apart from being a 2-in-1 does seem to share a lot of similarities with the recent HP Spectre Laptop (13.3"). For instance, both machines run on the Intel Core i7-7500U processor and Windows 10 with 8 GB LPDDR3 SDRAM, and offer two Thunderbolt 3 based USB Type-C ports.

The Spectre x360 (2nd Generation 2017) however only provides two USB-C ports out of its three USB connectors, with the third USB port being a USB 3.1 Gen 1 (Type-A). The HP Spectre Laptop (13.3") on the other hand offers up to three USB-C ports, with the third USB-C port providing USB 3.1 Gen 1 (5 Gb/s) connectivity.

Our Spectre x360 (2nd Generation 2017) came in the same Spectre signature black box as the HP Spectre Laptop (13.3") that we bought earlier

Its key specs and features are conveniently listed on the box.

The 5.83 x 16.22 x 13.11 inch convertible looks clean and elegant in a natural silver finish.

On one side, there is a lone USB Type-A connector which provides USB 3.1 Gen 1 (5 Gb/s) connectivity. Also available is a 3.5 mm headphone/microphone combo jack and the power button.

The other side includes two adjacent Thunderbolt 3 enabled USB Type-C ports which support Thunderbolt 3 (40 Gb/s), USB 3.1 Gen 2 (10 Gb/s), DisplayPort 1.2 to connect with 4K@60hz displays, and uses USB Power Delivery technology. These Thunderbolt 3 ports can also be used to charge the Spectre x360 (2nd Generation 2017).

The Spectre x360 (2nd Generation 2017) opens up to reveal a glossy 13.3 inch full HD display with a backlit keyboard. The 1920 x 1080 screen is touch enabled and enhanced with narrow bezel edge-to-edge glass. Its 360 degree geared hinge allows the notebook to be folded and used in four different modes.

Like other Spectre x360 laptops, this one also features the Bang & Olufsen brand of quad speakers.

The box includes standard accessories like the user and support documentation, a 13 inch leather-like case, and a USB Type-C based AC adapter (45 watts). An additional HP Spectre X360 stylus pen in natural silver is also provided for its multi-touch enabled screen.
