Despite Fitbit and Apple competing more directly with each other (and the disappearance of Fitbit products at the Apple store), given the iPhone's market share in Fitbit's key markets, it's still important that Fitbit devices work well with Apple products.  It's not surprising then that Fitbit made sure that the Fitbit Alta works well with the Apple iPhone 6s.

To set up the Fitbit Alta on the Apple iPhone 6s, download the Fitbit App from the Apple App Store.

The Fitbit App will go through a series of colorful welcome screens while asking you to create a Fitbit account or log in with an existing one.

The Fitbit App has a new dashboard which is even cleaner and more fun to use than the existing dashboard which is already one of the best in the market.

The new dashboard compacts more information into one screen and makes it easier to see quickly if you are meeting your goals.

If you select steps, you can see your step data using different time periods.

If you select Floors Climbed, you can see how many times you have climbed up ten feet over different time periods similar to in Steps.

You can also select Distance which the Fitbit App estimates by the number of steps times the estimated stride length you have based on your height and gender.

The Fitbit App also estimates your calories burned based on your basic metabolic rate where you burn calories just by being alive and breathing, and activity the Fitbit Alta has recorded or you have manually entered.

The Fitbit Alta also records your Active Minutes based on whether it records intensive step activity within a minute.

Fitbit provides a great detailed explanation about Active Minutes.

Fitbit also helps you set and meet weekly Exercise goals, a new feature on the App.

Of course Fitbit still supports traditional features like Sleep tracking but also now helps you set your sleep schedule.

Based on how much sleep you are targeting to get, you can set alerts for what time you should sleep and wake up.

One you set the sleep goals, you can see these goals visually on the Sleep graphs.

Fitbit also helps you keep moving by offering to remind you to move 250 steps every hour.

There are other screens available on the Fitbit App like Heart Rate, but since the Fitbit Alta doesn't track heart rate tracking like the Fitbit Charge HR, this screen isn't really relevant.

To help motivate you, Fitbit lets you set personal challenges as well as connect with friends to share your fitness stats, enjoy some friendly fitness competition, and provide mutual support in meeting fitness goals.

It's easy to add new data into your Fitbit App by selecting the plus sign at the bottom center of the screen.

For example, you can scan barcodes on food packaging to enter in what you've been eating so you can better track calorie intake.

What's also nice with the new Dashboard is the ability to easily customize what data you see on it.

If you need to change your account information, devices, or App settings, everything can be found in the Fitbit Account screen.

The Fitbit Alta works smoothly with the Apple iPhone 6s and with the new dashboard, the Fitbit App continues to be one of the easiest ways for you view and manage your fitness information, while staying motivated to stay fit.
