Dell XPS 13 9310- Dell's First PC with Thunderbolt 4

The latest Thunderbolt 4 technology provides PC's with more power which Dell takes advantage of with the Dell XPS 13 9310 which is also Dell's first Thunderbolt 4 notebook PC. Each of the two Thunderbolt 4 ports on the Dell XPS 13 9310 allows up to two 4K@60Hz displays to be connected which Thunderbolt 3 limits to only one per port. Each Thunderbolt 4 port can also link up one 8K display instead of two 4K displays or even docks or hubs with up to four Thunderbolt 4 ports.

The power boost continues with the Thunderbolt 4 port requirement to support 100W charging which means the Dell XPS 13 9310 can charge itself up to 100W through USB Power Delivery. Thunderbolt 4 now also allows 32 Gb/s PCIe speeds which is twice the PCIe bandwidth of Thunderbolt 3.

Unlike previous XPS 13 series models such as the Dell XPS 13 9370 laptop which had the 8th Gen Intel Core processor (4GHz) and Intel UHD 620 graphics, the Dell XPS 13 9310 now uses the newer and faster 11th Gen Intel Core chipset (4.7GHz) and Intel Iris Xe graphics. The Dell XPS 13 9310 also gets a faster dual-channel 4267MHz LPDDR4X memory boost up to 32GB.

In terms of outlook, no significant changes can be seen on the Dell XPS 13 9310 when compared to previous XPS 13 models.

The Dell XPS 13 9310 comes certified as one of Intel's Evo platform based PC's that support the latest 11th Gen Intel Core chipset and Intel Iris Xe graphics.

The Dell XPS 13 9310 still ships with a 45W Dell USB Type-C based charger similar to the one that came with the previous Dell XPS 13 9370. The AC charger states to support USB Power Delivery power profiles of 15 watts (5 volts @ 3 amps), 27 watts (9 volts @ 3 amps), 45 watts (15 volts @ 3 amps) and 45 watts (20 volts @ 2.25 amps) over the Type-C connector.

Also like the Dell XPS 13 9370, Dell also provides a USB Type-C to Type-A adapter for linking up USB Type-A peripherals with the Dell XPS 13 9310.

Rather than having two Thunderbolt ports side by side like the Dell XPS 13 9370, the Dell XPS 13 9310 provides one Thunderbolt 4 based USB Type-C port on each side of the PC. Each Thunderbolt 4 port should support Thunderbolt 4 (40 Gb/s), USB 3.2 Gen 2 (10 Gb/s), DisplayPort 1.4, and USB Power Delivery 3.0.

Other than the two Thunderbolt 4 ports, the Dell XPS 13 9310 is limited to only one 3.5 mm headphone/microphone combo jack and microSD card slot for connectivity options.
