The Roku Ultra is part of Roku's rebranding of its entire product line and replaces the previous Roku 4 that represented the top of the line for Roku.

Let's take a look at what's inside the Roku Ultra which we purchased from Amazon (Click here to see the Roku Ultra's price on Amazon).

The Roku Ultra's packaging and design looks a lot like the Roku 4's packaging and design.

Like the Roku 4, the Roku Ultra packaging has a premium quality feel to it compared to the lowest priced Roku, the Roku Express.

The Roku Ultra comes with accessories like its advanced remote control, batteries, AC power adapter, and earbuds.

The Roku Ultra looks a lot like the Roku 4 and both have a quad-core processor and similar specs.

One more noticeable difference between the Roku Ultra and Roku 4 is the placement of the interface ports.  They both have the same 10/100 Ethernet, HDMI 2.0, and optical audio out but in the case of the Roku Ultra, the the optical audio output is next to the DC IN power connector next to the power input while the Roku 4 has it between the Ethernet and HDMI ports.

The Roku Ultra and Roku 4 are very similar so if you already have a Roku 4, you don't really need to upgrade unless you have a 4K HDR enabled TV and absolutely want to watch 4K HDR enabled content.  However, it might make sense to wait a while longer when more 4K HDR content is available.
