Roku Releases the Lowest Priced Streaming Media Player- And Guess What, It’s Not a Stick

While streaming media stick players have traditionally offered the lowest cost way to add smart TV functionality to any TV, 2016 has seen that trend upended.  The popular Google Chromecast line has gone up market with the new but pricier Chromecast Ultra which supports 4K and HDR and is similarly priced as the Xiaomi 4K Mi Box (2016).  Amazon has keep the new Fire TV Stick with Alexa Voice Remote at a lower price point to their other Fire TV products, but Roku has now released one of the lowest priced mainstream streaming media player in the market- the Roku Express.

The Roku Express does not have a media stick form factor and like other set-top box style players, requires you to connect to your TV using a separate HDMI cable.  It only supports HDMI 1.4 and 1080p which is good enough for most people that don't own 4K TV's.  You will still need to power the Roku Express through a micro-B USB cable.

The Roku Express doesn't come with a voice controlled wireless remote and instead just uses a simple IR controller.

The Roku Express is being sold for a very low $29 at Amazon and is available for pre-order.  We look forward to testing this product.
