How to Miracast from a Microsoft Surface to the Vizio 4K TV with the Roku 4

Windows 10 has wireless display Miracast technology built in and the Microsoft Surface is able to make full use of it.  If you want to wirelessly display your Surface 3 to the Vizio M-Series 4K Ultra HD Smart TV however, you need to add a Miracast bridge device since this Vizio doesn't support Miracast natively. The Roku 4 is a great bridge device since it not only supports Miracast, but it supports streaming 4K media content.

When connecting the Roku 4 to the Vizio, make sure you use Vizio's HDMI 2.0 port labeled as HDMI 4K@60Hz.  Note that Miracast itself does not support HDMI 4K resolutions but you can still take advantage of Roku 4's other search 4K content search capabilities.

First go to the Roku System page to enter Screen mirroring, and select Enable screen mirroring.

Next go to the Display Settings in Windows on the Surface.

Once there, select Connect to a wireless display and select the Roku 4 that shows up on the right side of Windows.  The wireless display connection process will then start.

Once connected, the Vizio will mirror your Surface's screen.  Miracast is useful for casual desktop use and web browsing but not recommended if you plan to watch a long high resolution movie.

This is a nice improvement over the Roku 3 which had problems with wireless mirroring from the Surface 3.
