Plugable has been offering a variety of vertical USB Type-C docking stations like the Plugable USB-C Triple Display Docking Station and Plugable USB-C Triple Display 4K Docking Station with USB Power Delivery. For those looking for a USB Type-C horizontal docking station with low center of gravity, the previous option from Plugable had been the Plugable USB-C Docking Station with Power Delivery / Charging (Model UD-CA1A).
With the Plugable USB-C Mini Docking Station, you can now have a horizontal USB Type-C dock in a compact size that takes less real estate on your desk.
The Plugable USB-C Mini Docking Station allows you to expand the connectivity options on your USB Type-C based PC, tablet, or phone by adding a USB 3.1 Gen 1 (5 Gb/s) based Type-A port in the front of the dock, three USB 3.1 Gen 1 based Type-A ports in the back, a HDMI 1.4 that supports 4K@30hz resolutions, and one Gigabit Ethernet port.
Opening up the Plugable USB-C Mini Docking Station, the packaging design is similar to other Plugable dock products.
The Plugable USB-C Mini Docking Station comes with a USB 3.1 capable USB Type-C to Type-C cable, power adapter and cord, mounting stand with screws, and documentation.
The Plugable USB-C Mini Docking Station's 100 watts AC adapter powers the dock, connected host computer, and any other USB devices which are attached to the dock.
The Plugable USB-C Mini Docking Station has a power button in the front, a feature not typically found on USB docks.
There is also a 3.5mm audio port in the front for headphones.
Overall, the Plugable USB-C Mini Docking Station has a very clean uncluttered look in the front, with no interface ports on the sides or top.
All the rest of the connectivity and power ports are consolidated at the back of the dock.
The Plugable USB-C Mini Docking Station has a single USB Type-C port in the back that connects to PC's, tablets, and phones and provides up to 85 watts of power using USB Power Delivery technology. We will be seeing how well this port works with other Thunderbolt 3 based PC's and Mac's as well as other USB Type-C based hosts in the market.
