Not Clear How Apple MacBook Is Charging With Non-Apple USB Type-C Chargers

The Apple MacBook (Early 2015) has the new USB Type-C connector and unlike the MagSafe power adapters used on previous MacBook Pro and MacBook Air models, you can physically plug in any USB Type-C charging device to the MacBook.

Let's see what happens when you use mobile phone chargers used with the MacBook.

For example, if I plug in the LG 15W Nexus 5X USB-C Power Adapter to the Apple MacBook (Early 2015), the MacBook battery indicator on the top right of the screen will show that it's charging even though the 15W power provided by the charger is a lot less than the 29W adapter that comes with the MacBook.  Mac OS X doesn't make it clear how quickly charging is happening, if at all.

The same phenomenon happens when you plug in a 12.5W USB Type-A charger and use a USB Type-C to Type-A cable between the charger and the MacBook.  The battery indicator shows the MacBook is being charged although the battery never gets fully charged due to insufficient power from the charger.
